Church to Give Away Assault Rifle

Grace Baptist Church in Lansingburgh is running a free raffle at an upcoming Sunday service for an AR-15 assault rifle. A flier is out saying “Does the Bible defend my right to keep and bear arms?” Click here to go to the church’s website.Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin is scheduled to speak and it says all giveaways are free but attendance is required, according to the flier.

Rev. John Koletas is the pastor of Grace Baptist Church. In a letter post on the website, the service and gun raffle are aimed at "honoring hunters and gun owners who have been so viciously attacked by the antichristian socialist media and antichristian socialist politicians the last few years.”

Applicants will be subjected to a federal background check and must provide a valid driver’s license and you must be at least 18 years old. The church also says it reserves the right “to disqualify those of questionable character.”

The service is set for March 23 at 10:00 a.m.

The Times-Union reports that Koletas works as a Rensselaer County court reporter.
