A brother and sister from Troy were both arrested early Saturday morning for Driving While Intoxicated when they were pulled over by East Greenbush Police.
Police say they believed Donni Adams, 30, was the driver but when the officer got to the car he found Jennifer Adams, 31, in the driver’s seat of the Toyota Camry. She claimed to be the driver. Officers would later learn that Donni Adams driver’s license was revoked due to a 2008 DWI conviction in Albany County.
In this case, Police say it was an improper lane change on Troy Road that led to the stop and he saw an improper seat change by the two, swapping front seats. When Officer Mark Herrington asked her about having traded seats, Jennifer Adams insisted that it was she who was driving and the officers were wrong, police said in a report.
Suspecting alcohol involvement, police conducted roadside sobriety tests which confirmed impairment, police said. Jennifer Adams was taken into custody for DWI. Meanwhile, Officer J. Martyn questioned Donni Adams, who was now the “passenger,” about the improper lane change. Donni Adams was also charged with DWI.
Donni Adams was arraigned in East Greenbush Town Court before Justice Mary Pat Donnelly and sent to the Rensselaer County Jail with bail set at $5,000. Jennifer Adams was ticketed and released.
