An Albany County jury didn't what like they heard about Wayne Cole; they are sending him to jail for the assault and attempted robbery of a 92 year old woman.
The D.A.’s office presented witness accounts and video surveillance that they say showed Cole following the victim throughout the day of March 30, 2013.Eventually Cole knocked her to the ground and dragged her as he tried to get away with her purse. She suffered a broken hand and cuts and bruising to her arms and her legs.
Albany County District Attorney David Soares gives credit all around:
“This case was less about this defendant and more about a 92 year old hero who helped us remove this violent and shallow person from our community. ADA Corbitt could not have secured this conviction without the commitment of Officer DiCarlo who personally reviewed over 100 hours of video surveillance, the detectives who interviewed the suspect, and the many witnesses who involved themselves in pursuing justice for their neighbor.”
Cole, who resides in Albany was found guilty after a jury trial of (1) Count of Attempted Robbery in the Second Degree, a Class D Felony, and (1) Count of Assault in the Second Degree, a Class D Felony.
He faces up to 14 years in State Prison when he is sentenced on April 23, 2014.
